January has to be the best month in Australia for training, and for those athletes preparing for Ironman Australia, Ironman 70.3 Geelong or the Australian Long Course Championships, it is a critical month of work. I am doing a big block of training this year as I intend to race in Ironman China in March, and will use the Australian season events to prepare for this. I will be on the same training program I used to execute for Ironman Australia for the 5 years I won this event.
This year however, we saw it as a great opportunity to offer people the chance to come and join us on camp. With BPM out of Asia, who I have run many very successful training camps with, we sat down and mapped out the perfect venue for a camp and tried to find the best weekend to hold this camp, inline with the Australian racing season. What we decided was, Huskisson, home of the Australian Long Course Championship, and a beautiful part of NSW south Coast. We also thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to bring the current Australian champion Pete Jacobs along to join us, and share his knowledge of Long Course racing. Here is a bit of information about the camp and its costs. Lothar Leder, the 14 time Ironman Champion and 4 times top 4 Hawaii Ironman finisher may also join us on camp, as he trains with me a little this summer to prepare for Ironman New Zealand. It is going to be a really cool intimate camp, with lots of prize giveaways from my sponsors and just some good hard training. You will have a great time and I look forward to meeting many of you. Australian Triathlete magazines Tiff Loftus-Hill will be joining us on camp to write about the experience for the magazine and prepare herself for her goal of Ironman WA in 2010. Its going to be fun, so check it out if your free over that weekend and are looking at any of these big Australian races as a focus this year. It will be a great experience to have for all, and I know myself, Pete and Lothar look forward to meeting and training with you all. Hope to see you there!!!
